An all-star cast of musicians including Warren Haynes, Buddy Guy, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, John Scofield, and many more came together to honor the late B.B. King on Sunday at The Capitol Theatre for a special evening billed as, The Thrill Is Gone: A Tribute To B.B. King.
Artists from across the musical spectrum united by their appreciation for the blues pioneer shared the stage over the course of the evening. The lineup of musicians for Sundays all-star event also included Ann Wilson, Bob Margolin, Christone Kingfish Ingram, David Hidalgo, Ivan Neville, Jamey Johnson, Jimmie Vaughan, Little Steven, Robert Cray, Robert Randolph, Shemekia Copeland, Tony TC Coleman, Val B. King, William Bell, and more.
The musicians joined Grammy award-winning producer and musical director for the evening, Steve Jordan, who led a house band featuring his John Mayer Trio bandmate Pino Palladino, along with Reverend Charles Hodges, Isaiah Sharkey, and more.
The evening was opened by Wavy Gravy, the peace-loving Merry Prankster who, as the legend goes, was given his name by King himself at the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969. From there, the concert treated attendees to renditions of classic Kings well-known collection of songs with Guy, Trucks, Wilson, and more coming together for an emotional The Thrill Is Gone. Other highlights from the night included Randolph and Wilson on When Love Comes To Town, Copeland and Scofield playing Stormy Monday, and the whole ensemble coming together for Everyday I Have The Blues.
