In the ’70s, John Travolta’s swinging hips helped bring disco into the suburban mainstream. In 1980, with the release of the movie Urban Cowboy, those hips did the same for country, leading viewers on a two-stepping tour of all the loving, fighting and dancing that went down at Texas honky-tonk Gilley’s, a country venue the size of a football field.
