Like Salsoul's Original Salsoul Classics double-disc set and Charly's three-volume Salsoul Essentials series, Mastercuts compiles an impressive batch of Salsoul nuggets for both volumes of Classic Salsoul Mastercuts. Included on this second volume: Inner Life's powerful version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Love Committee's dramatic "Just As Long As I've Got You," Double Exposure's "My Love Is Free," First Choice's "Dr. Love," Moment of Truth's "Helplessly," and Eddie Holman's "This Will Be a Night to Remember." Handiwork from remixing pioneers like Shep Pettibone, Walter Gibbons, Tom Moulton, and Larry Levan graces this entire disc. Although Classic Salsoul Mastercuts wasn't the first to highlight some of the label's output, it's still an invaluable and timeless document of some of the finest dance music recorded. (AMG)
