Het is 1864 in Amerika. De Burgeroorlog is nog steeds in volle gang. De 13-jarige Will (Ashton Sanders) en zijn cynische oom Marcus (Keston John) sporen in opdracht van een bende blanke premiejagers weggelopen slaven op.
