Diretto da Steven Spielberg, il thriller politico The Post racconta la storia dietro alla pubblicazione dei "Quaderni del Pentagono", avvenuta agli inizi degli anni settanta sul Washington Post. L'occultamento dei documenti top secret sulle strategie e i rapporti del governo degli Stati Uniti con il Vietnam tra gli anni quaranta e sessanta innesca una battaglia senza precedenti in nome della trasparenza e della libertà di stampa. In particolare, la pubblicazione dei cosiddetti Pentagon Papers diviene manifesto della ferma e decisa rivendicazione del diritto di cronaca e della libertà di informazione da parte di due figure molte diverse ma accomunate dal coraggio e da una forte etica professionale: l'editrice del giornale Kay Graham (Meryl Streep), prima donna alla guida della prestigiosa testata, e il duro e testardo direttore del giornale Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks). I due metteranno a rischio la loro carriera e la loro stessa libertà nell'intento di portare pubblicamente alla luce ciò che quattro Presidenti hanno nascosto e insabbiato per anni. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the political thriller The Post tells the story behind the publication of the "Quaderni del Pentagono", published in the Washington Post in the early 1970s. The concealment of top secret documents on US government strategies and relations with Vietnam between the forties and sixties triggers an unprecedented battle in the name of transparency and freedom of the press. In particular, the publication of the so-called Pentagon Papers becomes a manifestation of the firm and decisive claim of the right of news and freedom of information on the part of two very different figures but united by courage and a strong professional ethic: the Kay Graham newspaper editor (Meryl Streep), first woman at the head of the prestigious newspaper, and the hard and stubborn editor of the newspaper Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks). The two will put their career and their freedom at risk with the aim of bringing to light what four Presidents have hidden and buried for years. Despite the petty attempts by the government to contain the leak of confidential information, the media spread the news by siding with the citizens.
