Prinses Dala verblijft in een luxe vakantieoord en zij is in het bezit van de grootste diamant ter wereld; de Pink Panther. In dit oord verblijft ook de charmante Charles Lytton die heimelijk The Phantom is, een juwelendief, en natuurlijk heeft hij zijn oog gericht op de diamant. Wanneer de diamant gestolen wordt, krijgt de onnozele inspecteur Jacques Clouseau de zaak toegewezen.
