The Nun - La vocazione del Male, è un film horror del 2018, diretto da Corin Hardy. I fatti del film si svolgono in Romania nel 1952, nel monastero cattolico di Cârta, quando due suore vengono attaccate da un'entità oscura, dopo aver tentato il recupero di una reliquia cristiana. L'unica sopravvissuta è Suor Victoria (Charlotte Hope) che poco dopo, si impicca fuori da una finestra. Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet), il garzone che porta le provviste al monastero, denuncia l'accaduto. Il Vaticano decide così di inviare in Romania Padre Burke (Demiàn Bichìr) e la novizia Suor Irene (Taissa Farmiga) per indagare sul suicidio.
Accompagnati da Frenchie, seppelliscono la suora e dopo aver incontrato la Badessa, scoprono che le altre suore sono costantemente in preghiera per tenere a bada un antico spirito malvagio, evocato da un duca il cui castello sorgeva sul terreno del monastero.
Lo scopo del demone è prendere possesso di un corpo per soddisfare la sua sete di sangue e male. Irene e Burke dovranno così affrontare l'entità determinata a prendere il sopravvento, verranno a conoscenza del reciproco passato e lavoreranno insieme per scoprire le terribili verità che si nascondono all'interno dell'abbazia.
