Summary:

Michael Paré plays a biker who agrees to rescue his ex-girlfriend (a rocker played by Diane Lane) from kidnappers (led by Willem Dafoe). The ensuing battle against a nocturnal background of industrial blight, chrome, and loud music is like some fever dream of a Springsteen fan who listened to the song "Born to Run" far too often. The audacity of the film carries it a long way even after it becomes clear that Hill's experiment is crumbling under its own weight. Dafoe, who looked even spookier back then than he does now, is memorable, as are Amy Madigan and Rick Moranis. Music is by Ry Cooder, with an appearance by the Blasters.

I seems that not everyone understands the greatness with this movie? -The actors do a really good work-Moranis is one, and Pare is good, but he has much less to play with as a carachter. -style is everything here: the lines are like they where stolen from old westerns or movies from the 50s. To really enjoy this movie: do not expect the ordinary action...see it as a "musical" set in a theatre and admire the artificial "artsiness" of this studio-style film! ...the bad guys are really bad...but funny, -and the good guy is really brave... -This is not suppose to be your ordinary action movie! -This is art...and poetry!


Walter Hill, maestro dei film d’azione, ricrea i temi e le atmosfere tipiche della “frontiera” trasponendole in un’ambientazione suburbana di imprecisa collocazione temporale. Il suo film è un western post-moderno, dove un eroe solitario armato di Winchester e muscoli (Paré) corre al salvataggio della sua bella (Lane), superdiva rock rapita dalla banda di teppisti motorizzati capeggiata dal cattivissimo Raven (Dafoe, che rivedremo in Platoone L’ultima tentazione di Cristo). Non mancano sparatorie, brutti ceffi, inseguimenti e, naturalmente, il duello finale. Il tutto sottolineato da un’eccellente colonna sonora (Ry Cooder tra gli autori).
