Nell Bryden has funded her music career through the sale of a
Milton Avery painting that had sat in her loft for nigh on
twenty years,
unaware of it’s value (£300,000) or the artist
behind it.


Prior to that she had played 500 hundred gigs in 3 years

touring around America with her band,
recently though she has
also taken in touring in the UK
and now releases her new album
Second Time Around.


It’s a nice enough collection of tracks that span the genres
of blues, folk and jazz,
the problem in the main is that for
every song like Tonight or Late Night Call
which are brilliant
and full of character,
there are an equal number of mundane
tracks that are instantly forgettable like If I Forget and
Goodbye.


I wouldn’t write her off based on this,
but she does need to
work more on getting the character into the songs that she is
clearly capable of.
