Ip Man è ambientato nel 1930 a Foshan, florido centro di arti marziali cinesi del sud, dove le varie scuole marziali (kwoon) sono in forte concorrenza tra loro. In questa città il miglior maestro di Wing Chun è Ip Man, uomo benestante e modesto che non sente necessità di avere discepoli e trascorre le sue giornate tra la famiglia, gli allenamenti e gli incontri con amici e conoscenti. Pur non essendo un professionista, Ip è rispettato a Foshan a causa della capacità che dimostra in amichevoli competizioni a porte chiuse con i maestri locali e....



In 1935 in Foshan, south China, there are martial arts schools on every street corner. Ip Man is the undisputed martial arts champion, yet he has not devoted himself to teaching. Despite this, it seems that all the kung fu masters of the city are eager to fight him to improve their reputation........
