Sebastien, un ragazzino di dieci anni, si trova in montagna per trascorrere le vacanze con la nonna e la zia, dando una mano con l'ovile e altre piccole faccende, un passatempo alquanto noioso per un bambino. Tuttavia la monotonia quotidiana viene interrotta grazie all'incontro con Belle, un cane gigantesco ma dolcissimo che viene maltrattato dal suo padrone. Sebastien fa di tutto per aiutare la sua nuova amica a quattro zampe e la sua estate si trasformerà in un'incredibile avventura.
