John e Laura sono in viaggio in Italia, a Venezia. Nel bagno di un ristorante Laura fa la conoscenza di due anziane signore, ed una di loro le dice che vede accanto a loro lo spirito della loro bambina, morta di recente. Laura sembra affascinata dalle parole della signora, e suo marito, pur essendo diffidente e scettico, per strada vede spesso una figura di piccola statura che indossa un impermeabile rosso, lo stesso che aveva sua figlia il giorno della sua morte...
